10 ways to declutter your mind

You may not actively consider the need to declutter your mind, but with more on your plate than ever before, intrusive thoughts may be negatively impacting your mental wellbeing and performance.

Here, we will look at ten top tips to declutter your mind to improve your focus and productivity.

1/ Prioritise

Too much on? Prioritise the important tasks and focus on them. This can be difficult, but it can help you do a better job and get each task done more quickly.

2/ Tidy up

Is your desk a mess? Visual clutter can cause mental distress. Tidy up for better peace of mind.

3/ Let go

Are you stressing about something that has been and gone? Whether it's a missed deadline or a bad day, you can't change it. You can only try to do better going forward. Let it go.

4/ Don't multitask

It is tempting to multitask when you have a lot on. However, this can cause you to never complete a task, or to feel they are not done properly. Focus on one thing at a time.

5/ Take a media break

With our twenty-four-hour news cycle, it can feel impossible to switch off. Try to limit the amount of media you consume to combat this - it will still be there later!

6/ Step outside

Do you find yourself sitting at your desk all day? Take a moment to step outside. Even ten minutes of fresh air can help to clear your mind and help you to feel calmer.

7/ Build a routine

If you have certain activities that have to be done every day, add them to a firm routine. This can help them to not take up a substantial part of your mind.

8/ Write it down

Journaling can be a wonderful way of working through your day and thinking about the positives, the negatives, and what you wish to achieve going forward.

9/ Try meditation

Incorporating meditation into your routine can help you to clear your mind and set your intentions for the day or week. With so few opportunities to stop and take stock, a meditation practice can help.

10/ Make decisions

Storing up decisions will make you feel more stressed as they occupy your thoughts. So be decisive!

With these ten tips, you can focus your mind and look forward to dealing with your life and career in a healthier, more productive way.
