3 tips for onboarding your new hires

If you’re like most companies, you care deeply about new hires. But once new employees are settled in the office space, it can be hard to make sure that they have the best possible experience with your company. One way to do this is to make sure they get on board with everything that makes your business unique, including things like culture, structure and work environment. In this blog, we look at a few ways of doing this.

1. Provide a mentor

A mentor can help new hires get to know the company. It’s a less intimidating way of showing the new hires the culture and getting to know the team. Managers can hold informal meetings for catch-ups to help with this as well. A mentor can also help new hires get to know their new job and help them get used to it and get used to a contingent workforce.

2. Use icebreakers

Icebreakers are a great way to get your new hires to open up and feel comfortable in their new work environment. They can also be used to help you learn about your employees' interests, hobbies and goals, which is invaluable information.

An icebreaker activity could be anything from a scavenger hunt around the office building to organising a work day out. For remote and hybrid teams, online quizzes and activities such as escape rooms have become popular ice-breaking activities. Virtual scavenger hunts across the web are also becoming increasingly common.

3. Regularly check in with new employees

You want the new hire to feel welcome and comfortable in their new role as quickly as possible. To ensure that your new employee feels safe and cared for during their first days on the job, take time at regular intervals throughout their first week or month on the job to get together over coffee or lunch and ask how everything is going. This will give both parties a chance to exchange information about what has worked well, and what hasn't worked so well yet.
