How to be a great mentor

For startups and fast-growing businesses, it can be hard to keep up with everything you need to do in order for your business to succeed, which means you may neglect to spend time mentoring and supporting your employees.

We understand the difficulties of this, so read on for some top tips on how to be a good mentor and therefore increase productivity in the workplace.

1. Regular reviews

The only way workers can improve is when they know the areas they could do better in. Rather than criticising employees, however, it could be beneficial to introduce a performance review scheme into your company.

Setting achievable goals for your workers and ensuring they have an understanding of the ways they can grow will encourage and motivate them to succeed and improve.

2. Reduce stress

No matter how professional your workers are, overworking and stress can be hugely counterproductive. For the benefit of your employees as well as your business, it is important to create an environment in which workers can come to you with problems so that solutions can be found, rather than taking on too much and struggling alone.

3. Promote communication

If you want workers to be motivated and well-equipped to perform the tasks expected of them, communication is vital. It's important to keep workers informed and ensure that important information can be easily accessed.

Furthermore, establishing a basic sense of two-way conversation can make employees feel much more appreciated and therefore more highly motivated.

This also means they are more likely to feel comfortable and have an easy line of contact to reach out to in case of any problems. This can greatly speed up working when it comes to simple issues which could be overcome by simply answering a question.

With these simple tips, you can make sure your employees are not only motivated to work efficiently, but also have the ability and channels available to overcome challenges in their careers in order to increase company productivity.
